Time again for another assignment in the Coursera Photography MOOC, put on by Michigan State University. This time the students were tasked with using a specific design element in several pictures to achieve a goal. I found this assignment fairly straightforward since my photography has long been rooted in creating moods through elements.
I chose to combine boats with decay, using textures to imply the end of purpose. Boats are wonderful for textures because they are often wooden and exposed to harsh elements like seawater and wind. Paint peels to expose the grain of the wood, rotten boards break into chaotic pieces, designed planking sags and shrinks.
These are the photos I chose from for this assignment.
